What is Botox?

Cosmetic Botulinum Toxin Therapy, also known as neurotoxin injectables, work to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They do this by paralyzing the muscles underneath that create those fine lines and wrinkles.

Botox interferes with the muscles that contract hundreds of times per day which eventually etches lines in the facia area. These lines are commonly known as crow’s feet, vertical frown lines and smoker’s lines around the mouth. Injecting these areas with Botox will interfere with the nerve stimulation of these facial areas and slow the muscles that contract in these areas.

Botox is typically used to help treat frown lines, crow’s feet, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) and migraines. Some of the neurotoxin brand names include Dysport, Xeomin, and newly FDA approved Jeuveau. CRT Medical Aesthetics uses only FDA approved brands.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everyone is different, so the answer varies.

The general answer is that Botox results can be seen within four to five days and can last three to six months, with no downtime or surgery and little to no discomfort.

Anyone planning for a big event would ideally have treatments two weeks ahead of their event.

Like most injections, Botox can be slightly uncomfortable, especially between the eyebrows.

Topical anesthetic can be provided to those areas 10 minutes prior to the procedure being performed upon request.

Other ways to minimize discomfort are to use tapping techniques or a small stress ball to squeeze that will be provided to you. Generally clients do not require any topical anesthetic or other techniques to minimize discomfort.

Botox is generally charged per unit. The cost can vary from $10-$12 per unit.

As a reference, it typically takes 14-20 units to smooth a 30 something year old’s forehead.

You can expect to spend $300-$500 to smooth out lines and wrinkles in the frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead areas. For migraines, treatment may require more units and this treatment is often covered under most insurance providers.

All clients are unique and consultations are tailored specifically to you. Pricing information and payment plans are part of every treatment plan. CRT Medical Aesthetics believes that “less is more” and will always try to achieve your natural beautiful results with minimal injections.

Every drug has side effects and Botox is no exception. Thankfully Botox side effects are rare and temporary. Side effects may include slight bruising of the injection site, which is further exaggerated with the use of alcohol or NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications). There may also be mild droopiness of the eyebrows or eyelids which would resolve in 1-2 weeks.

Side effects occur in 1-5% of Botox patients.

Botox is not designed to remove facial expressions. Instead, it is designed to soften lines of excessive facial expressions from squinting, frowning and smiling. It will not affect the nerves that cause sensations or make you feel numb.

When used correctly, Botox can lift the brow to give an appealing and sincere look.

This varies and is more about genetics and environmental factors than it is about stereotypical age ranges. A client can have Botox safely whenever they are bothered by their wrinkles and/or simply want to prevent them. Studies have shown there are no issues with long term use.
